What information do I need to supply to help specify the right Conformal Coating Automated Inspection System (AOI) for my project?

For conformal coating AOI there are several key areas of information required that will make the process quicker and more accurate for Modus and SCH to identify the right system. These key information areas are Process, Product, System and Installation.

Process

  1. Abstract of the testing task required. What does the system need to do?
  2. What is the coating material to be used?
  3. What is the Cycle time?
  4. Number of PCB variations?
  5. Quantities (per shift/per year)?
  6. Inline / Offline?

Product

  1. Picture, drawing and / or CAD data of sample PCB available?
  2. Samples available (5xGood/5xBad examples)?
  3. Dimensions and weight of sample PCB?
  4. Is the system to be palletised?
  5. Size of test area (width and length of pallet on conveyor for example)?
  6. Double sided testing required?

System

  1. Number and position of cameras?
  2. Transfer direction inline?
  3. Bar code recognition required, type and position?

 Installation

  1. Dimensions of the installation space (any limitations)?
  2. Where it is to be installed?
  3. Training needs?
  4. Test plan creation required?

Answering most of these questions will help build a strong knowledge of what is required for us to specify the right Conformal Coating Automated Inspection System (AOI) for your project.

About Dr Lee Hitchens

Dr Hitchens has been working in the electronics industry and the area of conformal coatings for over 25 years in various areas including sales and technical support. He has also been training people for almost the same amount of time in all areas of conformal coating whether that is materials & equipment selection, process development or troubleshooting to help them solve their particular problem. Recently, he decided that the industry needed a specific place where all of the useful knowledge on conformal coatings could be collated for users to find easily and use in their own production process. So, Nexus was born and he began the Nexus eBook project.
